The postage and philatelic issue includes a postage stamp in a block with a nominal value of 1 lev and a circulation of 3600 pieces. The design was created by artist Yana Aneva – Pavlova.
Tsvetilia Stoilkova noted that the postage stamp provides an opportunity to celebrate the Chinese New Year – the Year of the Wooden Snake. She mentioned that the topic is extremely popular among collectors and has cultural significance. Stoilkova emphasized that the philatelic marking of the Chinese New Year is a tradition in Asia and America, where large Chinese communities reside. In Eastern Europe and Bulgaria, this philatelic theme is relatively new and has been attracting increasing attention from philatelists over the last decade.
Dai Qingli, the Chinese Ambassador to Bulgaria, expressed his satisfaction with the good cooperation with the Union of Bulgarian Philatelists. He thanked the artist of the stamp for skillfully combining the image of the snake with the advent of the Chinese New Year. The ambassador expressed hope for strengthening the relations between China and Bulgaria and deepening the friendship between the two nations.
Spas Panchev, the Chairman of the Union of Bulgarian Philatelists, shared that the philatelic theme of the Chinese New Year is diverse and exciting for collectors. He congratulated the representatives from China on the Year of the Wooden Snake and thanked them for their good friendship and attention towards the philatelists.
The Chinese New Year is the biggest and most important holiday in China, which was included in the UNESCO list of intangible cultural heritage at the end of 2024. The Year of the Wooden Snake is significant as it repeats only every 60 years, according to the Chinese Embassy in Bulgaria.
At the end of last year, on the occasion of the 75th anniversary of the establishment of diplomatic relations between Bulgaria and China, "Bulgarian Posts" once again validated a special postage stamp.
