The order for the printing of the first Bulgarian postage stamps was made by the Office of the Russian Imperial Commissioner in Bulgaria Prince Alexander Dondukov-Korsakov in the Postal Department of Russia with letters No. 2757 of 21.IX.1878 (Plovdiv) and No. 4475 of Z.HI village (Sofia). The printed stamps were received in Bulgaria on 29.11.1879. Two days after the completion of the work of the Constituent National Assembly, on 18.IV. 1879 certain quantities of the Stamps of all values were sent to all existing post offices in Bulgaria with instructions to introduce them into use from 1.V.1879 together with the new postal rules, announcing this to the population. The two largest post offices (offices) in Sofia and Varna receive 2000 each, the stations in Tarnovo, Ruse and Lom - 1000 each, and the rest - 500 each. of all the values of the series. The artist of 1-5 is supposed to be the then senior engraver at (Z.Z.G.B.)" Franz Kepler.

In practice, the stamps were exhausted by the middle of 1882, for the stamp from 5 p. - until 12.1883, 50 p. - until 06.1879, and for 1 fr. - until 1887</br></br>BC 1 was printed three times - with orders from 3.XII.1878 (50,000), 13.VIII.1879 (100,000) and 21.V.1880 (100,000), 2-5 were printed only with the first order. The indicated circulations of the individual values are disputed, as they do not correspond to the documents indicating that under the first order of 3 .XII. 1878 were applied for printing and a total of 1,000,000 stamps arrived in Bulgaria.</br></br>Of all values, they are found with darker or lighter shades, as well as printed on thin paper.</br></br>Of 3 exist without serrations.</br></br>The watermark is also found inverted 180°, mirrored, mirrored and inverted 180°. Stamps with a larger part of a letter in the watermark are rarer.</br></br>Immediately after Liberation, Bulgaria did not have its own currency. In accordance with the requirements of the Universal Postal Union, the nominal values of the first Bulgarian postage stamps are in the monetary unit of the Latin Monetary Union - the gold franc, as 1 franc = 100 centimes. By law of June 4, 1880, the Bulgarian monetary unit golden lev was introduced, as 1 lev = 100 cents.
