In use: until 30.09.1901Type and dimensions of overprints: 24-25 - height 7.5 mm (two-line numbers, type "Latin initials"), 26-27 - height 12.5 mm (single-line numbers, type "Roman capital").
Distinctive features: dense print, unclear and blurred contours of the overprint, without embossed impression on the reverse side, a lighter shade of red on 25-26.
"DIGE 1941" catalog cites an act of the State Printing Office - Sofia dated 12.VI.1884, in which it is noted that even then, in addition to the 3/10, 5/30 and 15/25 cents, stamps of 50 st./1 fr. There are no documents to confirm that the "lithography overprints" were made at the Military Cartographic Institute - Sofia, as stated in some catalogs. Their "lithographic" appearance may have resulted from low pressure during typographic printing.
With the exception of 27, the remaining values of this type of overprints were practically not in postal use. A number of them were purchased in 1889 directly by the Treasury and sold abroad. The rest in the storage were sold to collectors in 1918 at an auction, and in 1931 and the following years and through the post offices in Sofia, Plovdiv, Varna, Burgas and Ruse.
