Additional Information
From 216-217 there are no serrations on one side, and from 216 - a pair, without perforation between them. From 216 there is also an inverted overprint, partially or completely without the new nominal value and a pair - one without overprint. The stamps were issued for the needs of the First Bulgarian National Aviation Joint Stock Company "BUNAVAD", which under contract performed the airmail service in the interior of Bulgaria. According to the contract, the state subsidized the company, instead of giving it money, it provided it with special stamps for the performance of the service, with which to charge the correspondence carried by air. Of the 50,000 series issued, 40,000 were handed over to "BUNAVAD", and some of the rest were given to the post offices in Sofia, Varna and Ruse exclusively for pasting the letters carried by airmail. Letters were affixed with regular stamps according to the tariff and were additionally charged with airplane stamps: for newspapers - BGN 1; for a postal card - BGN 2, for a sealed letter and a registered letter - BGN 4. The first airmail flight was carried out on the Sofia-Ruse-Varna line on 8.XI.1927 and back to Sofia - at 11 c.m. The unused stamps were sold by the company to dealers of postage stamps abroad.| BC № | Nominal | MNH | Used/CTO |
