The people of Plovdiv celebrated the 100th anniversary of football club “Lokomotiv” in an impressive way. A special commemorative postage stamp dedicated to the club’s century‑long history was presented at the City Art Gallery — a gesture that transforms the club’s legacy into part of Bulgaria’s national philatelic heritage.
A Ceremonial Presentation at Gallery “2019”
The event brought together representatives of the local government, cultural institutions, Bulgarian Posts, and the “100 Years of Lokomotiv Plovdiv” Foundation. Among the attendees were Deputy Mayor for Culture Plamen Panov, Atanas Neykov from the jubilee foundation, Elena Kabakova from the regional postal office, and artist Georgi Georgiev — the creator of the philatelic issue.
The gallery became a symbolic stage where sports history and art met. It was there that the new stamp was officially validated — an act that inscribes “Lokomotiv” into the postal and cultural chronicle of the country.
A Stamp as a Bridge Between Generations
The commemorative issue is designed as a visual bridge between the club’s past and present. It is part of a broader program that throughout 2026 brings together fans, veterans, and citizens through various cultural, sporting, and community initiatives.
Deputy Mayor Plamen Panov emphasized that the stamp’s validation is more than a ceremony — it is recognition of one of Plovdiv’s most significant sporting symbols. According to him, “Lokomotiv” has long surpassed the boundaries of a sports club and has become an integral part of the city’s identity.
Strong Interest Among Collectors
A temporary postal station was set up for philatelists, where visitors could purchase the commemorative block and receive a special cancellation mark within a two‑hour window. This allowed everyone to take home a small but meaningful piece of the club’s history.
A Century of Passion Preserved on a Stamp
The new philatelic issue is not merely a souvenir — it is a symbol of continuity, tradition, and community. For the black‑and‑white supporters, it stands as yet another testament that the story of “Lokomotiv” continues to be written not only on the pitch but also in the cultural memory of Plovdiv.
