Chinese postage stamps commemorating the Year of the Dragon 2024

Preview BEIJING, Jan. 5 (Xinhua) -- China Post on Friday unveiled a set of two special stamps to celebrate the upcoming Year of the Dragon according to the Chinese zodiac.
 
One of the stamps depicts a golden dragon flying among clouds on a red background. Its image and posture are derived from the Nine Dragons Wall of the Forbidden City, symbolizing the spirit of vigorous progress and self-improvement.
 
The other stamp depicts two dragons circling a traditional Chinese jade object inscribed with auspicious patterns expressing good wishes for good times, prosperity, and peace for the country and people.
 
China has released stamps featuring zodiac signs every year since 1980, when it was the Year of the Monkey.
 
The Chinese zodiac cycle contains 12 animals that record years and reflect the attributes of people: rat, ox, tiger, rabbit, dragon, snake, horse, sheep, monkey, rooster, dog, and pig.
