Preview The first philatelic issue for 2026 marks a historic moment – Bulgaria’s accession to the eurozone . The stamp bears the symbolic name “Bulgaria in the Eurozone” and is the first in the country’s history to be printed with a denomination of 1 euro. Although small in size, it is loaded with enormous significance: a sign of the new economic era that Bulgaria officially enters on January 1, 2026.

The validation ceremony took place at the Ministry of Transport and Communications . Deputy Prime Minister Grozdan Karadjov and Finance Minister Temenuzhka Petkova emphasized that the stamp is not just a philatelic publication, but a symbol of the country's long-standing efforts to achieve full integration into the European Union. According to them, it represents a "small sign of great historical significance" - a visual testament to the new stage in Bulgaria's development.

The artistic project is the work of Assoc. Prof. Nenko Atanasov – an author who skillfully intertwines tradition and modernity. The design makes a direct connection with the first Bulgarian postage stamps from the end of the 19th century, by including the crowned Bulgarian lion – a symbol of statehood since the time of the Tarnovo Constitution. At the same time, the composition is clean, contemporary and inscribed in the European visual identity.

Historically speaking, this is only the second time that Bulgaria has changed the denomination of its postage stamps. The first issues after the Liberation in 1879 were in centimes, and a year later – with the introduction of the gold lev – they switched to a denomination in levs. Since then, nearly 6,000 Bulgarian stamps have been issued, documenting the most important moments in the country’s history. The new euro stamp logically continues this tradition, marking the beginning of a new financial and political chapter.

For philatelists, the “Bulgaria in the Eurozone” stamp will certainly become a sought-after collector’s item. It combines historical value, artistic precision and symbolism that goes beyond the framework of philately. This is a stamp that does not simply mark a date, but tells a story – the story of Bulgaria, which is confidently taking a step forward into its European future.
