Short description: According to one legend of the Martenitsa, Khan Asparuh’s sister sent a letter to her brother, tied to a swallow’s leg with a white thread. While the bird was flying to him, its leg was rubbed and its blood colored the thread red. The swallow arrived to Khan Asparuh on March 1, which is considered the start of the tradition of wearing red and white Martenitsi for health and luck. In the vignette – inscriptions in Bulgarian and English of the edition, the Europe 2022 logo, and a swallow flying with the letter.
