Additional information:Of 98 they exist with light blue, of 99 - with gray or black, of 102 - with light green and red overprint. Of all values, there are overprints with horizontally and vertically shifted (at 99-102 overprints "1912-1913" above "OSVOB. WAR"), and also with errors in letters and numbers (for 97-98, 100-103 — "1918" instead of "1913"). The overprints were made to commemorate the Balkan War of 1912-1913, called the Liberation War, as its purpose was the liberation of the lands with Bulgarian population in Macedonia and Adrianople Thrace, which were under the rule of the Ottoman Empire. The order for the overprinting was made on 15.V.1913, two days before the signing of the London Peace Treaty (17.V.1913), which put an end to the war. However, the stamps were put into use shortly after the end of the Inter-Allied War and the Bucharest Peace Treaty (28.VII.1913) was signed, the consequences of which were qualified as the First National Catastrophe for Bulgaria. |
