Additional information:The stamps were in regular use until May 20, 1932 in railway stations in Sofia (post office), Plovdiv, Varna, Burgas, Ruse, Lom, Gabrovo and Pleven, where air mail was accepted. The nominal values corresponded, for ordinary air mail to Strasbourg (263), Paris (264) and Lyon or Marseille (265). It was planned that a special plane would fly from Sofia to Strasbourg on May 17, 1932, with the collected correspondence, which did not materialize. In the days of use of the series, the accepted correspondence was stamped in Sofia with a special date stamp (by plane) in black ink, and on May 17, 1932 - with red ink. Most of the letters that actually traveled with 263-265 were sent to Vienna by train, and from there to Paris - by plane or again by train. The stamps that were not sold within the specified period for use were then sold for philatelic purposes, after which the remainder of about 17,000 series were used for internal postal use, when charging for the dispatch of newspapers at Sofia station. |
