📝 Additional Information ▼
In use: until 30.09.1901.

Type and dimensions of the overprints: 24-25 - height 7.5 mm (two-line numerals, type "Latin initials"), 26-27 - height 12.5 mm (one-line numerals, type "Roman capital").

Distinctive features: dense imprint, unclear and blurred contours of the overprint, no relief imprint on the reverse, lighter shade of the red color on 25-26.

Catalog "DIGE 1941" brings for information an act of the State Printing House - Sofia dated 12.VI.1884, in which it is noted that even then, in addition to 3/10, 5/30 and 15/25 stotinki., stamps of 50 stotinki/1 franc were also overprinted. There are no documents confirming that the "lithographic overprints" were made at the Military Cartographic Institute - Sofia, as stated in some catalogs. Their "lithographic" appearance may have resulted from weak pressure during typographic printing.

With the exception of 27, the remaining values of this type of overprints were practically not in postal use. One lot was purchased in 1889 directly from the Ministry of Finance and sold abroad. The rest in the repository were sold to collectors in 1918 at auction, and in 1931 and the following years through the post offices in Sofia, Plovdiv, Varna, Burgas and Ruse.

With the same plots 21-23.

Forgeries of all stamps are found.
