ПревюHungarian Post continues its decades‑long tradition in 2026 of issuing stamp series with a surcharge dedicated to supporting youth philately. This year, the initiative celebrates the 300th anniversary of the publication of Jonathan Swift’s satirical masterpiece Gulliver’s Travels-a work that remains both a literary classic and a brilliant social critique. The series was issued on 15 July 2026 as part of the thematic line “Anniversaries,” highlighting significant cultural and historical milestones.

The new release consists of a miniature sheet of four postage stamps, designed by graphic artist Boglárka Nádi. The stamps were printed in offset on white, wood‑free, surface‑treated, gummed stamp paper with optical brightener. Printing was carried out by Pénzjegynyomda Zrt., while the First Day Cover was produced by Pátria Zrt.. The miniature sheet measures 70 × 109 mm, and the stamps have a perforation size of 25 × 40 mm. The print run is 10,000 copies, making the issue both collectible and relatively limited.

The series carries a nominal surcharge of 150 HUF per miniature sheet, which cannot be used to pay postal fees but is entirely allocated to supporting youth stamp collecting. This continues Hungarian Post’s long‑standing commitment to encouraging philatelic interest among younger generations by drawing inspiration from popular literary, cultural, and historical themes.

Published in 1726, Gulliver’s Travels is one of the most influential works of world literature. Swift uses the structure of an adventure travelogue to deliver a sharp satire of human weaknesses, political conflicts, and social injustices. Gulliver’s four journeys-to Lilliput, Brobdingnag, Laputa, and the land of the Houyhnhnms-explore different aspects of human nature, science, society, and morality. Through the contrast between fantastical worlds and real human behavior, Swift constructs a critical yet deeply humane perspective on mankind.

The stamps in the miniature sheet depict scenes from each of Gulliver’s four voyages, visually interpreting key moments from the novel. The illustrations are imaginative and detailed, emphasizing contrasts between small and large worlds, rationality and absurdity, humanity and inhumanity. The First Day Cover features an artistic composition inspired by the creation of the novel, including the author’s name and biographical dates. The FDC cancellation shows a ship motif-a symbol of the voyages that shape the narrative.

The series For Youth – 300 Years Since the Publication of Gulliver’s Travels demonstrates how philately can serve as a bridge between literature, culture, and education. Through its combination of artistic design, literary heritage, and social mission, Hungarian Post has created an issue that not only commemorates an important anniversary but also inspires a new generation of collectors to explore the world through stamps.
