About the Catalogue

Viewed 916 times Author: Mihail Petrov

The catalog maintained on this website is a comprehensive digital study of Bulgarian philately from 1879 to the present day. It systematizes and presents in a unified structure all major philatelic materials – postage stamps, postal stationery, maximum cards, first day covers, first day cancellations, souvenir and private issues, as well as their varieties.

It has been created through long-term collection, analysis, and verification of data from catalogs, philatelic literature, auctions, dealer offers, and original material from private and public collections. The catalog includes original research, corrections, and newly identified varieties, bringing together dispersed information into a consistent system.

The classification follows the chronological order of issue and typological groups, supplemented when necessary with detailed levels for varieties. All data are continuously updated, and prices – when available – are indicative and based on real market observations.

In essence, the catalog is a dynamic, evolving research tool that offers the most complete and coherent documentation of Bulgarian philatelic issues available in a single digital resource.

Additionally, the catalog serves as a reliable foundation for researchers, collectors, and institutions, providing structured and verified information that supports both scholarly work and practical collecting. Through its scope and methodological consistency, it contributes to a deeper understanding of the development of Bulgarian philately and its place within the broader historical context.

The Catalogue uses data provided by the Ministry of Transport and Communications of the Republic of Bulgaria, Bulgarian Posts, the FEPRA catalogues edited by Georgi Dechev, the Catalogues of Bulgarian Postal Stationery 1879–2007, Parts I and II, authored by Dimitar Monev, as well as a substantial number of private collections.
