ПревюThe joint philatelic issue of the postal administrations of Serbia and Slovenia, dedicated to HM Queen Maria Karađorđević and her court lady Franja Tavčar, is a remarkable tribute to two women whose lives transformed humanity into a bridge between nations. This issue does not merely commemorate historical figures-it tells a story of compassion, personal devotion, and those quiet yet powerful connections that outlive their time.

Queen Maria remains in the memory of generations as a symbol of empathy and charitable service. Her work in support of women, children, the poor, war victims, and orphans turned humanitarian activity into a national mission. She was known as the “Mother of all Nations” of the former Kingdom-an acknowledgment reflecting not a title, but genuine human virtue.

Standing beside her was Franja Tavčar, a devoted court lady whose discreet strength and profound kindness complemented the Queen’s work. Tavčar did not simply assist charitable initiatives; she embraced them as her own cause, embodying the values of solidarity, service, and moral responsibility toward the most vulnerable.

ПревюTheir friendship was more than a personal bond-it symbolized the historical closeness between the Serbian and Slovenian peoples. Through their deeds, Maria and Franja built a bridge that still reminds us today that kindness is a universal language, untouched by borders, politics, or generations.

The issue was prepared with the expert cooperation of Uroš Parezanović, Head of Public Relations and Protocol of the Royal Palace, and Biljana Ristić, Senior Curator at the Škofja Loka Museum. The artistic design is the work of academic graphic artist Nadežda Skočajić.

On June 12, 2026, Serbia and Slovenia also released a joint souvenir sheet titled “Humanitarians – Queen Maria Karađorđević and Court Lady Franja Tavčar,” printed in 10,000 copies (Serbia) and 18,000 copies (Slovenia), offering philatelists another testament to the enduring power of human kindness.
